HANOI, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's two largest cities are expected to be the first in the country to implement emission standards for motorbikes in 2027, according to a draft plan compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho and Hue cities are set to adopt the standards beginning Jan. 1, 2028, local media VnExpress reported Tuesday.
The remaining provinces and cities will follow from Jan. 1, 2030.
As of October 2024, Vietnam had 77 million registered motorbikes, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.
Currently, Vietnam only enforces emission standards and inspections for automobiles, with no such regulations yet in place for motorbikes. ■
